Each January, we publish Life 101, an issue dedicated to education based on the theme “Change Your Life.” The mandate ranges from the casual—a cooking or dance class, a topical forum—to continuing ed and degree programs, especially advanced degrees. In general, we’re targeting an adult population, not pre-college high school kids. Our University of Chicago publication returns that week from break, so you’ll also connect very well with that knowledge-hungry community.
If education is part, or all, of your mission, we hope you’ll engage with us as we endeavor to create a truly special issue. You won’t connect with a finer audience of voracious knowledge seekers anywhere, we guarantee that. Read the rest of this entry »

Newcity owns summer in Chicago.
We launched it seventeen years ago, as a promotion for our Summer Guide edition, which we wanted to call “the official users manual for sunshine” and thought it would work better if there were an actual sunny season to help audiences understand what we were getting at. It was very popular and we decided to expand it from a one-time promotional tie-in into one of the perpetual seasons. Where there were only three major seasons, now there are four. (Summer is like the Fox Network of seasons, though less right-wing.) For many of us, this newfangled thing we call summer is now the most popular.
You’re welcome.
Whether you’re selling a swimsuit for the beach, or shorts for the beer garden; whether you’re operating a beer garden or an al fresco restaurant; whether you’re selling beer, wine or picnic baskets to pack for a night at Ravinia; or whether you are Ravinia or Pitchfork, the potential riches of summer abound. And of course we can’t forget theater productions, art shows and street fairs. Read the rest of this entry »

Newcity’s April 28 issue—”Breakout Artists: Chicago’s Next Generation of Image Makers”—will be our eighth annual edition devoted to showcasing Chicago’s top emerging artists. Each new edition of Newcity’s Breakout Artists issue has become the talk of Chicago during the course of the Art Chicago/NEXT/Artropolis art fairs.
So who should advertise in this issue? Well anyone connected to the art world, either as an exhibition venue, a teacher of art or as a seller of art, of course. But beyond that, anyone interested in connecting to culture in its most exuberant form, or reaching the consumers of art—often the most demographically desirable of all—whether to offer them a place to eat, to shop, or to have a cocktail. To inquire about rates and space availability, email advertising@newcity.com.
Space Reservation Deadline: Thursday, April 21
Materials Deadline: Friday, April 22 (preferred), Monday, April 25 (late)
